My Dartmoor Meadow (On Re-wilding a meadow, Hennock, South East Dartmoor)
V1. Waiting for the wild in this field
Waiting for the wild things to come
the ox-eyes daisies and the drop wort
the ragged robin where the brook flows
Then the kestrel flew over the meadow
And a corn bunting sang
I've mowed a little path so I can see through
And find all the wild things that grow
And feel it even though don't know the words
Chorus:
Where the wild things grow conveys a special magic as Spring comes on
While there's enough dreamland we'll restore to the real land and make us feel so alive
Something to do with the lapwings twisting in the sky
The gold-ringed dragonflies
V2. And the orchids and marsh fritillaries grew
Yellow hammers sang in the hedge
And the grasshoppers and beetles and knap weeds came
Makes you feel you can to fly like the swallows
that have found my little meadow
I saw them fly the swifts
twisting unfurling in the wind
CHORUS
V.3 The eyebright and the orchids grew into my meadow
hey!...and here come the white tail new queens
Bumblebees at dead-nettle and the scabious....
